Writing prompt choices: Students were given these in class today, and instructions were provided. Students must choose one of the prompts and respond using the following vocabulary terms (asunder, askew, austere, badger,astute) HL these terms in your story.

Choice #1: Imagine you are a dollar bill. Using first person (the pronoun “I”), describe what happens to you during the course of a week. (1 page response-written or typed)

Choice #2: Use the following sentence as the beginning of two different short stories (1/2 page each) using the same five vocabulary words listed above. “Eve stared down at the egg in her hand. There was no other choice: she had to call the F.B.I. headquarters.” One 1/2 page story should be serious. The second 1/2 page story should be funny.

Extra Credit Opportunity for all classes

(students received a hard copy of the EC opportunity on 1/10)

  1. Find a comma rule used in text: a magazine, a newspaper, a church bulletin, or some other text. You may NOT print something from the internet.
  2. Cut and paste the sentence to an index card.
  3. Highlight the comma(s).
  4. Define the rule on the index card and label it above the comma.
  5. All information should be placed on the FRONT of the index card.
  6. Students may bring in up to 3 index cards with different comma rules from different sources.  Each card will be worth 2 points added to a quiz or CW grade.
  7. All guidelines must be followed to receive the points.
  8. These index cards are due by Tuesday, Jan. 17th.

****Tuesday-Thursday IC:  I won’t see the Wildcats for three days: Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday due to the CRA (Constructed Response Assessment) that will take place in the morning on those three days. Students will not go to their 1st or 2nd period classes for three days. I will see the Vols-we will work on vocabulary, singular and plural possessives,  and other enrichment activities for these three days. The HW for the Wildcats on Tues., Wed., and Thurs. will be to review your “I Can” statements for the Treasure Island test on Friday and to complete work with singular and plural possessives.  All material on the “I Can” review statements has been covered in class. Work with singular and plural possessives (p. 246-251) in the grammar workbook. Workbook pages are due on Friday. The students can also start working on their Treasure Island essay assignment. Poem assignment with “The Road Not Taken” by Robert Frost due on Thursday, 11/10: Students were given this assignment on 10/31. The students must type the poem on a separate sheet of paper and label the rhyme scheme. Then, on the same piece of paper, respond to the poem’s theme with a typed  7-SENTENCE paragraph and illustration (either drawn with colored pencils or clip art). The students were shown examples in class. Students must also memorize the poem and recite it on Monday, 11/21.
